Welcome

Welcome to the June edition of the OPC connect newsletter!

As we get further into 2017 we continue making great strides with OPC technology and marketing activities. Stefan Hoppe and I continue to go out and evangelize the OPC UA technology at a multitude of different events the world over. Just in the months of April and May I have been in five different countries presenting and talking about the limitless applications of OPC UA. You can find out more about the events I’ve presented at and the places I’ve been by checking out my LinkedIn page and following the OPC Foundation on Twitter! It has been very exciting to see all of the suppliers and end-users talking about OPC UA and its application across all industries.

Some of the events that I have attended include the IIoT event in Chicago, the OPC booth and press conference at the Hanover fair, the Deterministic Ethernet event in Vienna, and OPC UA keynote presentation at the Nortex event in Houston. I also represented the OPC Foundation in Barcelona for the ARC forum, and presented at NI week in Austin (I could write a book about all the great things that people are talking about all these events with respect to information integration interoperability and how they are using the OPC UA technology!!). The most exhilarating event was OPC Day Europe in Copenhagen. The OPC Day Europe event Copenhagen was a wonderful opportunity to learn and see OPC UA in action.

The OPC Foundation is very actively engaged in a number of other initiatives in addition to our favorites MDIS, DSATS, PLCOpen, OMAC, Witsml/Prodml, ISA95, and OpenAutomationForum. All of this and more can be found on our website (https://opcfoundation.org/markets-collaboration/). We are always in the process of keeping the OPC Foundation website up-to-date with all of the exciting information about the consortia and collaborators we are working with. Work is underway very aggressively to develop companion specifications for Mimosa, ProdML and WITSML, a revised version of MTConnect.

There are lots of exciting things that are going to be happening in the balance of 2017, including the North American OPC roadshows. The events page on our website is the best resource to use to keep up to date with all of the events where OPC will be, for example Rockwell Automation TechED in Orlando and Honeywell Users Group in San Antonio at the end of June. These two companies are leaders in the adoption of OPC UA as well, and both have been active on the OPC Foundation Board of Directors.

We will be visiting 11 North American cities during our road show tour. Coming up in July OPC we will be in Boston and Philadelphia. The Boston event is being hosted by Microsoft and Iconics. At the Boston event there will be some very special guest speakers and you can participate in this great experience at no-cost for all attendees. If you are interested in being a sponsor for an event and being able to network with all attendees of these events you can check out the OPC events page where the sponsorship prospectus is available to present a visual overview of our events (https://opcfoundation.org/events/).

As we proceed into the summer months of 2017 we are moving further into new and exciting territory. We have many things to look forward to in the coming months and we hope you are as excited as we are. Thank you for taking the time to read this June edition of our OPC Connect newsletter!
