Statoil Chooses OPC UA for their OneIMS Initiative

Prediktor’s Apis Software platform chosen by Statoil for OneIMS

Prediktor AS, announced today that Statoil has chosen Prediktor’s Apis Software platform as the OPC UA gateway in their OneIMS initiative. The first delivery is to the Johan Sverdrup field. An option for a complete rollout to all Statoil assets is included in the contract.

Statoil is an international energy company with operations in 37 countries. Building on more than 40 years of experience from oil and gas production on the Norwegian continental shelf, Statoil is committed to accommodating the world’s energy needs in a responsible manner, applying technology and creating innovative business solutions. Statoil is headquartered in Stavanger, Norway with approximately 22,000 employees worldwide, and is listed on the New York and Oslo stock exchanges.

The overall objective of the delivery is to provide a standardized and unified way of accessing operational data from different assets via enterprise systems – not only standardized on protocol, but also standardized on data semantics. This can be especially challenging in brown-field installations where both non-standard protocols and unplanned- or non-standard semantics can be present.

The Apis Software platform, a data historian and OPC UA mapping tool for creating standardized asset frameworks, fulfills Statoil’s objectives. Legacy plant systems will be mapped to OPC UA semantic models from companion standards such as S95, PRODML and WITSML.

“We believe an OPC UA gateway based on Apis enables enterprises like Statoil to prepare for Industry 4.0, and implement totally new enterprise IT strategies for operational data on Johan Sverdrup and other sites,” said Morten Enholm, Executive Vice President of Software at Prediktor. “We are proud that our Apis platform continues to be the technology of choice for forward-thinking companies such as Statoil.”

“Standardization on the semantic layer, or ‘asset frameworks’ if you will, is a core feature of OPC UA. I am thrilled to see that a forward thinking customer and supplier, both long-time members of the OPC Foundation, now are doing unique work centering on this aspect of OPC UA.” says Thomas J. Burke, OPC Foundation President & Executive Director. “Prediktor is active in the OPC Foundation OPC UA working groups, and has been very innovative in advancing the cause of the OPC UA technology”.
