Event Recap: VDMA & OPC Foundation Symposium Showcases the Power of Industrial Interoperability
As part of our continued commitment to global collaboration and knowledge exchange, the OPC Foundation partnered with VDMA for a series of symposiums across India in May 2025. Held in Bangalore (June 5), Pune (June 8), and Chennai (June 9), the events were centered around the theme: “Transforming Shopfloor Automation Using Interoperable Interfaces.”
A key highlight was the strong focus on OPC UA as the foundation for industrial interoperability, bridging the gap between OT and IT in modern smart manufacturing environments.
Featured Sessions Included:
- “Shaping the Future with the New Cloud Reference Architecture”
Stefan Hoppe, President OPC Foundation, addressed OPC UA growing into the IT world. - “Unlocking Manufacturing Advances Through Interoperability: OPC UA and its Specifications” by Mr. Marc Schmitt and Mr. Eric Schmidt, VDMA Germany
- “Industrial Interoperability Made Easy with OPC UA”
Mr. Sidhant Bora, Senior Application Manager, Beckhoff Automation
A practical look at simplifying integration on the shop floor using open standards. - “OPC UA in IT-OT Integration: An Enabler for Smart Manufacturing”
Ms. Vandhana Sankaran and Mr. Rajkiran Patil from Siemens Technology and Services
Showcased real-world applications of OPC UA enabling digital transformation. - “From Structure to Semantics – Unlocking the Power of OPC UA Information Models”
Mr. Nithin, Head of Business (Europe) at Utthunga Technologies
Highlighted how standardized information models lay the groundwork for semantic interoperability.
The symposium series not only emphasized OPC UA’s technical benefits but also inspired meaningful discussion on the future of automation in the Indian manufacturing landscape.
A sincere thank you to all speakers, partners, and participants who made these events a success. The OPC Foundation looks forward to continuing our collaboration in the region and beyond Please do not forget India is the country with the largest population of the world.
In cooperation with the OPC Hub India, under lead of M.R. Subramanya (Vice President Siemens Technology and Services Private Limited), the OPC Foundation is preparing an Interoperability Workshop to test OPC UA enabled applications in 2026 in India – a country with a strong software focus and many OPC UA developers.
