OPC Foundation North America Update: A Busy Fall Season Begins

After a brief July respite following several busy months of travel, the OPC Foundation’s North American schedule accelerated again in August and September with a series of well-attended industry events, technical discussions, and member engagements.

    Ethernet-APL seminar in Raleigh
Together with colleagues from FieldComm Group, ODVA, and PI, the OPC Foundation sponsored a very well-attended Ethernet-APL event in Raleigh, North Carolina. With support from 11 sponsors, attendees explored the full lifecycle of Ethernet-APL adoption—from specification, design, and implementation to the use of full-fidelity information from intelligent field devices across Ethernet-APL networks.

Yokogawa’s YNOW2026 event in New Orleans
The OPC Foundation was also pleased to accept an invitation to Yokogawa’s YNOW2026 event in New Orleans. Michael Clark presented detailed information about security functions enabled between OPC UA-capable devices, including the rationale behind the selection of OPC UA for the O-PAS Connectivity Framework (OCF). Congratulations to Yokogawa on becoming the first company to certify an Open Process Automation device.

OPC Technical Webinar North America held on September 11
Another key highlight was the OPC technical webinar held on September 11. We extend our sincere thanks to speakers from supporting external agencies and associations, including Dr. Matthew Rogers of the United States Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), Dr. Zack Valdez of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), Michael Hotaling of ExxonMobil, and Andreas Faath of VDMA. OPC Foundation speakers included Stefan Hoppe, President; Michael Clark, Director of North America; and Peter Lutz, Director of the FLC Initiative.

Most recently, the OPC Foundation continued its outreach as a sponsoring exhibitor at the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) in Chicago. At the time of publication, the event is still underway, and we welcome visitors to our booth in the North Hall of McCormick Place (#236349). Please stop by to meet OPC Foundation President Stefan Hoppe, Michael Clark, Director of OPC North America, and Paul Hunkar, Director of Certification.
