President’s Welcome

Every season here at the OPC Foundation brings something new and exciting to look forward to. Now with the summer months winding down, we here at the OPC Foundation are anticipating a great many more events and the continuation of all our important collaborative work. As we head into August and September we look forward to the next stops on the 2017 North America Seminar tour and you lucky readers still have the opportunity to see us there!

Our next stop on this year’s North America Seminar Tour will be on September 26th in San Diego, CA, and September 27th in Palo Alto, CA, hosted by HPE. We also have stops in Seattle hosted by Microsoft (9/28), Vancouver (9/29), Minneapolis hosted by Beckhoff (10/3), Toronto (10/5), Milwaukee hosted by Rockwell (10/9), Cleveland hosted by Eaton (10/11), and Austin Hosted by NI (11/14). Also coming up in September we have our OPC Interoperability Workshop, Europe on the 18th through the 22nd. This event is being held at Siemens AG (Nürnburg, Germany) and it is “the” event for testing OPC products for interoperability and preparing them for market. You can check out more about this event and register to attend at: https://opcfoundation.org/event-details/?ee=138.

During the month of August, the OPC Foundation wants to draw attention to our collaboration with Sercos International. When this collaboration was formed in 2011 it was with the common aim to improve machine integration and to reduce the complexity of information exchange between machine periphery and higher-level IT systems. “Sercos is one of the world’s leading digital interfaces for communication between controls, drives, I/Os and other decentralized peripheral devices, such as encoders, safety devices and vision systems.”

The following companies have actively contributed to the OPC UA companion specification on behalf of the members of Sercos International and all users of the Sercos technology:

    • Bosch Rexroth
    • ESR Pollmeier
    • FISW Steuerungstechnik GmbH
    • Schneider Electric
    • Softing

You can read more about this significant collaborative effort here: https://opcfoundation.org/markets-collaboration/sercos-international/.

Lastly, the OPC Foundation is excited to be a sponsor of ICONICS’ Worldwide Customer Summit, Connected Intelligence 17. Join us in historic Providence, Rhode Island to gain insight into the latest advances in automation technology solutions. I’ll be speaking at the event alongside a number of other industry experts as we share best practices and learn how ICONICS’ disruptive software for the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), augmented reality, and energy smart buildings will help your organization “Make the Invisible Visible™”. You’ll hear from early adopters who have applied ICONICS solutions across multiple industries, and you’ll also have the opportunity to network with your peers at the automation software technology event of the year! Register today at http://www.iconics.com/wwcs2017/register to take advantage of the special registration offer and get one free pass for your organization.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read about all of the exciting things we are up to here at the OPC Foundation and we look forward to even more excitement to come!
