With more than 200 Industrial PCs in operation, the 2,150-meter-long Kaisermühlen Tunnel in Vienna shows that modular PC-based control technology from Beckhoff, plus OPC UA linkage at the controller level, make for an optimum automation platform in this environment.
ICONICS has announced an agreement with Takebishi Corporation to integrate the Takebishi DeviceXPlorer OPC Server with its own OPC-based automation software solutions. The parties plan future collaboration, such as the integration of the configuration environment for the Takebishi DeviceXPlorer OPC Server into the ICONICS Workbench and the ICONICS IoTWorX™ IoT software solution.
While it may not be obvious, OPC UA and American football share common ground. Most importantly, both require smart action and good protection in rough environments. To address this, the ACI400 IIoT Edge device from METTLER TOLEDO provides secure data exchange using the OPC UA Companion Specification for simple static weighing.
The push towards integrating any and all devices into your enterprise charges forward, with IIoT and Industrie 4.0 initiatives emerging in virtually every industry. But not every device has a ready-made, off-the-shelf driver for integration with other devices and other industrial systems.
A warm welcome,
“Don’t let this Welcome Article start with Covid 19 again,” was my first thought. But in the end, the pandemic is THE issue that affects our entire business the most: Most trade shows have been cancelled or postponed to the middle of 2021, yet I have the feeling that we are all concentrating more on our daily work and that things will be solved faster.
It is planned to have the initial release candidate specifications available by the end of October for controller-to-controller use-cases. These form the foundation for extending the features and functions to also cover controller-to-device use-cases in the second specification release planned for 2021.
The project “Interoperable Interfaces for Intelligent Production” (II4IP) aims at the development of cross-industry OPC UA standards. Interfaces for machines and components in the form of “OPC UA for Machinery” are being created based on the currently available sector-specific OPC UA standards as well as those currently in development.
OPC Day International 2020, a virtual event held June 22-25, garnered thousands of registrants (3000+) and participants over its three days. The topics were varied and exciting including overviews of certain activities and deep dives into select areas. Watch the archived webcasts, download the slides, and read the complete Q&A session here.
Companion Specification certification is becoming more important and more common. Providing vendors with the capability to execute automated tests to verify compliance against a Companion Specification, and the opportunity to certify their products easily, increases the confidence in and demand for Companion Specifications.
