Aker BP Chooses SCADA System Powered by OPC UA

    Aker BP will begin using state-of-the-art real time solutions based on standardized and open technology (OPC UA) for industrial communication in the coming year. The system will be installed on multiple on- and offshore installations and represents a significant step towards autonomous drilling operations.

    OPC UA Makes MTConnect Better

      MTConnect is a widely adopted standard for machine tools, robots, and other manufacturing equipment as confirmed at the IMTS show last month. A new MTConnect – OPC UA Companion Specification is set for release before the end of the year.

        Cogent DataHub Supports Manufacturing Production Engineering Project

          The largest independent manufacturer of electric mirror adjusting actuators and electric power-folding mirror actuators had a problem: their PCs would crash when due to a buggy Excel plugin that monitored productivity metrics. The solution was to implement Cogent’s DataHub which speaks both OPC UA and Excel.

The word is out… OPC UA continues to be recognized as the international communication and information standard for Industrie 4.0; end-users all across industrial segments and beyond are demanding OPC UA information interoperability from their suppliers. Collaborations with diverse organizations are pushing the release of companion specifications to enable the use of OPC UA in other vertical markets.

            Compliance Corner – August 2018 Update

              Welcome to this edition’s Compliance Corner update. Last month you heard about the lab from Alexander and some bits about what has happened with regard to certification. In this newsletter we will try to pass on some of the new items we are working on, including some of the new information-model testing that is in progress.

              Find OPC at these Upcoming Events

                The OPC Foundation will have four stops on a North American seminar tour: Montreal, QC; Cleveland, OH; Chicago, IL; and Morris Plains, NJ. Also in September, OPC will attend the Industry of Things World – Europe event in Berlin, Germany. In October, two conferences are planned in Pune and Bangalore, India with the VDMA.

                Collaboration Update – August 2018

                  Two collaborations are highlighted this month. Harmonization work has begun in the Industrie 4.0 Asset Administration Shell (I4AAS) Working Group along with the ZVEI and VDMA to bring the I4AAS into OPC UA. And the VDW has adopted OPC UA as its interoperability foundation for Machine Tool Builders.
