New Director of Field Level Communications Initiative

    The OPC Foundation is pleased to announce the nomination of Peter Lutz as the new Director of the Field Level Communication (FLC) Initiative. In his new position, he will lead and drive forward the development of the initiative and the specifications.

    Throughout his career, Peter Lutz led various international projects, initiatives and consortia that developed and promoted innovative technologies for the benefit of users and suppliers in the industrial market.

    In his role as managing director of Sercos International, Peter Lutz has been responsible for designing, specifying, standardizing and promoting the Sercos automation bus. Under his direction, various specifications, comprehensive certification tools and procedures for conformance and interoperability testing of field devices have emerged.

    “I am looking forward to this new task and the associated challenges. I am convinced that we will extend the success story of OPC UA to the field level. ” said Peter Lutz about his new position.

    After the official presentation at the SPS IPC DRIVES fair 2018 in Nuremberg, the Field Level Communication Initiative was established within the OPC Foundation and has started its work.

    The Steering Committee of the Initiative meets regularly to coordinate and support the marketing and technical work including the leading automation suppliers ABB, BECKHOFF, Bosch Rexroth, B&R, Cisco, Hilscher, Hirschmann, Huawei, Intel, Kalycito, KUKA, Mitsubishi Electric, Molex, Moxa, Omron, Phoenix Contact, Pilz, Rockwell Automation, Schneider Electric, Siemens, TTTech, WAGO and Yokogawa.

    “Among many other skills, Peter Lutz knows how to achieve cross-vendor interoperability. This will bring the users of the OPC Field Level Communication Standard a lot of advantages.” comments Thomas Brandl from Bosch Rexroth, who is chairman of the FLC Steering Committee.
